Adventure Ministry - Mineral Creek - November 2024
A Chilly November Adventure in Mineral Creek, NM
There’s something about the crisp, biting cold of November that sharpens your senses, and for Corey, Jesse, and Ryan, Mineral Creek, New Mexico, delivered a memorable blend of natural beauty, connection, and a few surprises.
The men followed Module One, which can be heard about here.
Nestled in the rugged terrain of New Mexico, Mineral Creek offered a serene escape from the everyday grind. The group faced temperatures that dipped to a frosty 33 degrees Fahrenheit—enough to make your breath visible and your fingers stiff. Despite the chill, the creek was merciful, with low water levels that kept our feet mostly dry and spirits surprisingly high. Wildlife sightings were sparse, save for one dramatic encounter with a screaming eagle—a moment equal parts awe-inspiring and mysterious.
The trip wasn’t just about the scenery, though. Corey brought along thoughtfully crafted writing prompts, setting the tone for moments of introspection and honest sharing. There’s something special about putting pen to paper in the stillness of nature, and each of us dug deep, finding ourselves writing and speaking freely in ways that felt raw and genuine.
Yet, lessons were learned too—particularly about the necessity of good coffee. If there’s one thing we won’t forget, it’s how much poor-quality coffee can dampen morale in freezing weather. Next time, a robust blend will definitely top the packing list.
On the food front, however, we struck gold. Before our hike in, the Alma Grill was a warm, welcoming haven. The patty melts, accented with New Mexico’s famous Hatch green chiles, hit the spot with their savory spice, and Ryan couldn’t resist their apple pie—a perfect balance of tart and sweet. It’s safe to say the Alma Grill did not disappoint, providing a satisfying start to the days spent immersed in Mineral Creek’s rugged beauty.
Looking back, it wasn’t just the landscape or the food that made the trip special; it was the combination of shared laughter, vulnerability, and the little details—the screaming eagle, the chilly water, and even the coffee mishap—that turned a simple November outing into a cherished memory.
Next time, we’ll pack better coffee and maybe a few extra layers, but one thing is certain: Mineral Creek in November is an adventure worth braving the cold.
